Let’s take a moment to vent.
Spring cleaning can be a tedious task. You have to clear out the dust bunnies, put away your winter clothes, wipe down every surface imaginable – and, don’t forget, clean your vents.
That’s right, clean your vents!
You probably haven’t given the vents in your home the attention they need.
Not to worry. We’re here to remind you of these often-forgotten places in your home, and to help you clean them up for the summer season.
Cleaning your air vents is one of the best ways to make sure the air in your home is clean.
Start by soaking them in the bathtub with warm water and dish soap. While the vents are off, vacuum out the ducts. You may also want to take a damp cloth and wipe out the ducts, but wear gloves so you don’t cut yourself on the sharp metal.
Not only can clearing out your dryer vent help your appliance function more efficiently, but it can also help prevent a house fire.
To clear out any clogs, first unplug your dryer. Then, vacuum out your dryer vent. Be sure to go to the exterior of your home and clean the vent from that end as well.
Range hood vents
Make sure your range’s fan is functioning properly by de-greasing your range hood vent filter.
To get the gunk off, fill a sink with hot water and ¼ cup borax. Soak the vent filter for 15 minutes. Use a paper towel to wipe off any stubborn grease.
